Gillian comes from North Wales and was one of the first
music students to enter Chetham’s School of Music, Manchester. She
furthered her music studies at University College Cardiff where she gained
a Bachelor of Music degree and an L.T.C.L. performer’s diploma.
Gillian is in great demand for performances at concerts
and functions throughout the U.K. and appears frequently at the most
beautiful hotels, historic houses and castles. During the Summer seasons
of 1988 and 1990 she was the official harpist aboard Royal Cruise Line’s
Crown Odyssey. In 1996 she played aboard the Japanese cruise ship Asuka.
Notable engagements have included performances at the Cardiff Castle for
the Emperor and Empress of Japan and aboard the World’s most famous
cruise liner - Queen Elizabeth 2.
In addition to performing, Gillian has tutored many
promising young harpists and many of her students have been awarded top
prizes at the national music festivals.
Gillian is co-director of the Glamorgan Harp Guild and
the administrator of Coleg Telyn Cymru (The Welsh Harp College). In 1988
she was awarded a Welsh Arts Council grant to study for an M.A. degree in
Arts Administration at City University, London. In 1990 she was appointed
as the Director of Yehudi Menuhin’s Live Music Now! scheme in Wales for
which she has organised over two thousand performances. Gillian has been a
member of the music panel of the Arts Council of Wales since 1996.
She has a vast repertoire of classical, folk and
popular music to suit all tastes.
