Amanda-Jane Whiting is one of the most exciting young
harpists in Wales today. Her musicianship combined with a strong technique
and a lively character puts her in the front line of contemporary
musicians.
She was classically trained at Wells Cathedral Music
School where she was the first harpist to obtain a scholarship as a
specialist musician as well as achieving the Nansi Richards Scholarship
award. Her studies continued at Cardiff University with Caryl Thomas where
Amanda gained her Bachelor in Music. She is now a full time professional
harpist based in Cardiff but travelling across Britain and often further
afield.
In 1998 she was resident harpist on NCL’s cruise ship
‘The Dream’, travelling around the Mediterranean and Caribbean. She
captivated audiences with her recitals and her own unique style of jazz
and cocktail music.
Amanda has appeared on British, American and Japanese
television and has also given a recital on an American radio station.
Other engagements have included playing for
HRH Prince of Wales and Reverend Desmond Tutu.
In March 2000 Amanda was accepted on to the late Lord
Menuhin’s music scheme ‘Live Music Now!’
Amanda is at home playing a vast range of music - be it
traditional, classical, jazz or pop.
